I’ve often used the site kamernet.nl to rent a place to live. During my search I was working full-time, so location was important. I wanted to keep my personal belongings in the space, so I was looking for the right space. In the end I had to weigh up what I was willing to pay the rent for.

From my first search to my last match, the prices of a studio, house and room were ridiculous compared with the prices of social housing from a housing association. I thought the price was meant to be like that because of the housing shortage (supply and demand), but I could never understand where the price comes from, how the costs can get so high and how it can be calculated.

Fortunately the Affordable Rent Act (Wet betaalbare huur) came into force, and while scrolling on Instagram I came across Huurfix. With the help of Huurfix, my rent was reduced by € 416.69. Over a process of six months, the results came into view.

It was important, though, to check with Huurfix beforehand whether the rent reduction could stand a chance in the situation I was in. Whenever I had questions, uncertainties or doubts, I got an answer from Jan Louwers. He helped me on behalf of Huurfix in the process of making the rent reduction happen, and he also personally explained to me how things work and are supposed to go under the rules of renting, letting and living.

Because I have to pay less rent, I can choose to work less and enjoy my free time more. Or to work more, and also save more, spend more money on days out, go on holiday, buy nice clothes, buy food, buy presents for friends, family or loved ones, and anything else you can think of.
